Following the recent spike in criminal activities, especially the killing of security agents by unknown gunmen, the Nigerian Army on Tuesday, conducted a Show of Force in Onitsha, the commercial city of Anambra State.
The conducts by the army heightened tension in the city with residents fearing a long military occupation of the area.
Military officers were sighted at Atani and Obodo Ukwu Roads, Upper Iweka in Onitsha, and on Onitsha-Owerri Road – with roadblocks for stop-and-search operations.

Recall that Governor Willie Obiano had on Sunday directed the security operatives in the state, youths, vigilantes and community leaders to rise up to the security challenges in the state.
Separate attacks on security agents led to the killing of four naval officers, four police officers and two prison warders.
The abduction and killing of lawyer and the president-general of the Omor community in Anyamelum Local Government, sparked a protest by legal practitioners in the state and boycott of the courts.
