The source said the officer while on routine stop and search, stopped a car and was shot while trying to check the occupants, not knowing that they were bad boys.
The source who did not want to be named said the occupants of the car shot the officer dead, injured two others and carted away their rifles. He claimed that cultists involved in illegal bunkering, and illegal refining of crude oil carried out the act.
Nnamdi Omoni, the public relations officer of the Rivers State Police Command, while confirming the development, said that the Commissioner of Police, Joseph Mukan, has ordered an investigation to fish out the perpetrators.
