Herdsmen kill seven at Benue IDP camp

No less than 10 persons have been killed by herdsmen in Aguamede Community, Ehamufu town of Isi Uzo Local Government Area of Enugu State.

Community sources said the attack began on Saturday and continued on Monday afternoon.

Among the killed were six women and four men while five others sustained machete injuries on several parts of their bodies.

The area has seen constant attacks in the last one year from herders who invade the agrarian communities from neighbouring Benue State.

A Catholic priest in the community, Okwesili Onyekachi said the terrorizing herders invaded the community with the intention to kill every male persons.

He said the attack on Monday lasted for over four hours with security agents refusing to intervene.

“This attack has lasted for over 4 hours now and currently ongoing. Yet no police, army or any other security forces.

“I was with the army this morning to report about the attack of Saturday, knowing that they will still launch fresh attack. These terrorists came to wipe the entire community. Pray for us. The land is bleeding. Everywhere is blood.

“President Buhari we are dying here. Causalities are over 10 for now as we are still discovering dead bodies of our men. Really a terrible one”

Daniel Ndukwe, the public relations officer of the state command said the command was not aware of the attack, promising to get back to our correspondent when he is briefed on the matter.
