Unknown gunmen have attacked a police outpost in Mgbakwu, Awka North Local Government Area of Anambra State.

According to a resident of the area, Mr Christian Nnenna, the hoodlums who attacked the police outpost at about three O’clock on Sunday morning, shot a police officer and made an attempt to burn down the station, before they were repelled.

He claimed that the injured police officer was rushed to the hospital for treatment.

Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Monday Kuryas, confirming the attack in a Press Statement, signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, said personnel on duty repelled the hoodlums who were well armed.

The statement noted that the Command is not deterred by the criminal actions of some unscrupulous individuals and groups, hell-bent on unleashing violence and mayhem on the state.
