Heavily armed gunmen suspected to be Fulani militia on Wednesday invaded an Internally Displaced person camp in Rantis in the Gashish District of Barkin Ladi local government area of Plateau State, killing two persons and injuring several others in the process.

In a statement, the National Publicity Secretary of the Berom Youth Movement (BYM), Rwang Tengwong said the gunmen numbering about six, invaded the “IDP on three motorcycles and shot sporadically at the people at about 3:40 pm when the IDPs had completed work for the day and were about leaving the site.”

“As a result of the attack, two persons, Dalyop Boyi and Gyang Jugu, were killed while three persons, Pastor Samson Boyi, Dahwol Jam and Pam Boyi sustained gunshot injuries.

“A Volkswagon Vento belonging to one of the deceased, Dalyop Boyi, was also burnt down by the attackers,” Tengwong said.

Meanwhile, three persons have been confirmed killed while another suffered gunshot injuries after gunmen suspected to be Fulani militia invaded another Irigwe community, Ariri Village, in Bassa local government area of Plateau State in the early hours of Monday, April 4, 2022.

According to the National Publicity Secretary of the Irigwe Development Association (IDA), Davidson Malison, the attackers also burnt down 25 houses, an ECWA church, food barns, motorcycles, livestock, pumping machines, among others.

Malison who lamented the wanton destruction perpetrated by the marauding militia said they operated for several hours without any help coming from security operatives.

In the statement titled “Update on the attack at Ariri Village of Rigwe land” Malison said: “In their evil continuation of killings and destructions of lives and property in Rigwe land, the Fulani terrorists attacked Ariri village of Miango District in the wee hours of Monday, April 4, 2022, where three people were killed, and one person was injured as a result of gunshots.

“25 households with 50 rooms were razed down, 40 food barns and 28 kitchens were burnt down. One grinding machine was also burnt down while another motorcycle was burnt down.

“Uncountable number of domestic animals including goats and chickens were stolen by the terrorists while an uncountable number of household items like mattresses, chairs and cooking utensils were looted.

“Many harvested food crops were burnt down. The ECWA Church in Ariri was completely razed down.

“The attack, according to residents of the village, started at about 1:30 am with the attackers having a field day in their operation before the arrival of security personnel.

“It’s yet another sad event for the Rigwe people as the bloodletting has continued unstoppable and uncontrollable.”
