I watched the defence minister on Channels saying what is difficult to explain. He explained that insurgents come to a village with three rounds of ammunition and people run away without putting up a fight in defence; he wants villagers to defend themselves and stop behaving like cowards! I am a bit confused here. How can unarmed villagers fight armed men? I am sure these villagers aren’t magicians.
My question is how does the minister want people to defend themselves with bare hands when citizens are not allowed to carry arms? You don’t want citizens to be cowards yet insecurity is on the rise! Oga minister, please play the clip and watch what you said. I simply can’t understand the logic in it Sir. I think many people can’t too!
Every right-thinking person knows that Banditry, kidnapping and Terrorism are now big businesses in Nigeria. Insecurity in Nigeria is an organised and sophisticated crime. I saw a video on social media were heavily armed terrorists were brandishing their weapons and ammunition. How did they take delivery of such consignment, who are their sponsors? These are questions begging for answers.
My friend was narrowly rescued by security operatives near Abia State University last weekend. I spoke with him on the phone and he explained how his SUV was littered with bullets. Thank God he came out alive. His driver wasn’t hurt too. The video of the failed kidnap attempt went viral.
How do we explain these cases? An unaccounted number of school children were kidnapped in Niger State 48 hours ago. In another development, I watched a clip where gunmen were demanding 500 million naira to release innocent travellers they kidnapped in Niger State. Where do we go from here, how did we get here? Many security agents have lost their lives in this battle.
How do we come out of this mess? Nigeria is now a laughing stock in the international space.
Honestly, this is the worst time to be a Nigerian. I am an optimist but my optimistic spirit is failing me in this issue.
The Federal Government should wake up to this challenge. Nigerians are becoming the most terrorized people in the world! This status isn’t good news.
Security agents should step up their game. Intelligence is key to fighting this type of Insecurity. Nigeria is not at war but we have lost lives more than what you will experience in a war situation! Authorities need to reverse this ugly situation urgently.
I wish the new Service Chiefs the best. They should try to do things differently. The clock is ticking on this issue and Nigerians are waiting.
