At least two farmers were killed during an attack by the Nigerian military on Orlu early on Thursday.

Local sources said the soldiers who were combing the forests in search of Operatives of the Eastern Security Network shot dead two farmers in the process.

“They must have mistaken them for operatives of the ESN”, a source told Standardobservers.

“Their families picked their remains up later in the afternoon as everyone barricaded themselves inside the house out of fear of the military guns.

” The tension is high. People are moving out of Orlu out of fear. No one knows the next plan of the military”

Recall that a clash between the ESN operatives and soldiers in the area earlier in January resulted in the heavy casualties on the side of the soldiers who were out gunned by the ESN operatives and resorted to the killing of civilians.

The sources said markets and schools and other public places were speedily shut down as families searched for their loved ones.
