Six police officers killed in Rivers by unknown gunmen

At least six police officers were killed by unknown gunmen in coordinated attacks on police formations in Rivers.

One officer was beheaded during an attack at Rumuji police station, while the other was shot dead.

The gunmen also torched the police station while an operational vehicle belonging to the station was burnt.

This is despite the curfew imposed by Governor Nyesom Wike to checkmate night movements in the 23 local government areas.

It was also gathered that a C4i checkpoint along the East West Road close to the Choba Bridge was attacked by the gunmen, and two officers killed. Their rifles were also carted away by the gunmen.

At Elimgbu police station, the gunmen also killed to police officers and carted away rifles.

Nnamdi Omoni, the police public relations officer said the Commissioner of Police, Friday Eboka has assembled a team to visit the affected police stations.
