Senator Okorocha says Igbos should produce president in 2023

The senator representing Imo West Senatorial district, Rochas Okorocha says 2023 is the right time for Igbos to produce the president of Nigeria.

According to Senator Okorocha, the mood of the country is ripe for a president of Igbo extraction in 2023.

Rochas Okorocha who stated this while playing host to a pressure group, Ndi Igbo Good Governance Initiative (NGGI), pointed out that denying the Igbos presidency in 2023 would amount to injustice.

“It was morally just for the country to support the Igbos to produce the next president.

“The mood of the nation has changed and there is so much division, we are looking for somebody the North and the Yorubas can trust, and somebody who can care for the less privileged and the poor,” he said.

The lawmaker also urged political leaders of the zone to synergize with other regions to actualize the Igbo presidency.

He stressed that Igbos were the most misunderstood section of the country, noting that people of the Southeast believe in the unity and oneness of Nigeria.

The lawmaker has been rumoured have an interest in running for the converted position in 2023.

Rumours spiralled last week that he might be on his way out of the All Progressives Congress, APC, after he visited the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike twice in February. Wike is seen as the chief financier of the People Democratic Party and its national leader.

All lending credence to the rumours was Okorocha’s criticism of his party, which he accused of being taken over by a cabal who do not want to share ideas.

Last week, he also took swipes at President Muhammadu Buhari over the terrible security situation in the country, especially the banditry in the North.

He passed a vote of no-confidence in President Buhari in handling the security crisis, declaring that the president has been overwhelmed by the issue.
