The Nigerian Navy Hydro Graphic School Borokiri has commenced a move to partner with Rivers State University in the area of Surveying and Geodesy studies.
The Commanding Officer Nigerian Navy Hydro Graphic School Borokiri, Capt. Mahmud Fana, made this known during a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor Rivers State University, Prof. Nlerum Okogbule.
Capt. Mahmud Fana during the visit said the collaboration will help in mapping Nigerian waters.
He said the partnership will boost the capacity of both students of the Nigerian Navy Hydro Graphic School and lecturers of Rivers State University.
”The aim of our partnership is to see how we can collaborate with Rivers State University especially the Department of Surveying and Geomatics. You know Nigerian Navy Hydro Graphic School is a professional school where we train professional hydrographers in the science of hydrography with the aim of fulfilling our constitutional mandate of surveying and charting Nigerian maritime environment”.
”So we believe that Rivers State University has the capacity considering the number of Professors and Doctorate Degree holders that they have. So they can come us some lectures in Geodesy and some critical areas that we think our students can benefit from” he said.
The Vice-Chancellor of Rivers State University Prof. Nlerum Okogbule while hosting the Commanding Officer Nigerian Navy Hydro Graphic School Borokiri, Capt. Mahmud Fana, in his office, directed the Department of Surveying and Geomatics to develop a curriculum for the commencement of the programme.
He said the institution will ensure the success of the proposed programme.
The Head of Department of Surveying and Geodesy, Rivers State University, Dr. Lawrence Hart said the partnership will open new frontiers in the study of Surveying, Hydro Graphing and Geodesy.
Dr. Lawrence Hart also called on tertiary institutions across the country to partner with other institutes of higher learning to boost the capacity of their students and lecturers.
