Sometimes, silence could be costly

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) on Thursday urged Twitter, to delete President Muhammadu Buhari’s account completely over his ‘insensitive’ tweet threatening genocide on the Igbo people.

Buhari had after receiving a briefing from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, on the destruction of the commission’s facilities across Nigeria, had used civil war references to deal with trouble makers.

However, Twitter took down his tweets, explaining that it violated Twitter rules.

IPOB in a statement by its media and publicity secretary, Emma Powerful, commended Twitter for “its courage to speak truth to power adding that the microblogging site should “go a step further and completely delete Buhari from its system as a deterrent to others”.

“The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has noted the action of Twitter in deleting the inciting statement by President Muhammadu Buhari, threatening another war against Biafrans,” the group said.
