Okiemute Mrere, the Chief Provost of Nigerian Immigration Service, Imo State Command, has been killed by unknown gunmen.
An Immigration Officer who didn’t want his name in print said Mrere, an indigene of Delta State was killed when his Hilux patrol vehicle was attacked along Owerri-Port Harcourt road on Saturday.
The source said Mrere had left for patrol and surveillance, adding that the Hilux was found empty with gunshot marks.
He added that his body was later discovered in the bush on Sunday morning after some search was conducted, adding that his service pistol was still on him when his dead body was discovered.
Bala Elkana, the public relations officer of the state command said he had not been briefed on the matter, promising to get back to our correspondent.
