Igwe Achebe launches health insurance scheme for Onitsha residents

Igwe Nnaemeka Achebe, the Obi of Onitsha has launched a health insurance scheme with the aim of providing healthcare insurance coverage for Onitsha residents.

The event, which took place at the Ime Obi, Awka Road Onitsha, attracted ndi Ichies, members of Agbalanze, Ndi otu Odu Society, and various age groups among others.

ABS reports that the event was organized by Onitsha Advancement Foundation Health and Wellbeing Team in collaboration with Anambra State Health Insurance Agency, ASHIA and sponsored by Onitsha indigenes both at home and in the diaspora.

Declaring the event open, Igwe Achebe described health as wealth, stressing that it is necessary for all to key into the health insurance scheme to alleviate the plight of people in paying hospital bills.

He described the scheme as peculiar to Onitsha indigenes commending the state government and Onitsha Ado Medical Personnel for their efforts towards actualizing the dream of ensuring that Onitsha people receive medical attention.

In their separate speeches, the programme coordinator, Onitsha Advancement Foundation, ONAF, Enyi Rita Okolonji and the team leader ONAF Health and Wellbeing Team, Dr Udoka Imagie said the assured to add value to ASHIA by setting up a clinic that will be operational once every week with the aim of making proper diagnosis and management.

In her remark, the representative, Anambra State Health Insurance Agency Mrs. Ngozi Agajelu expressed hope that ASHIA will be sustained in the state by the incoming government even as she commended Governor Willie Obiano for floating the scheme.

In their separate interviews, the transition committee chairman, Onitsha North Local Government Area, Honorable Patrick Agha-Mba and the President-General Onitsha World Wide, commended Igwe Achebe for his efforts towards the upliftment and wellbeing of Ndi Onitsha.
