After a majority of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lawmakers in the Senate failed to show up for the consideration of the Electoral Act Amendment Bill leading to the defeat of the crucial full electronic transmission of votes, those House of the Representatives on Friday walked out during consideration of the bill.
The House Speaker Femi Gbajabiamiala had appealed to members to allow consideration of other sections of the bill while leaving out the contentious section 5 which has to do with the electronic transmission of votes.
However, Minority Leader, Ndidi Elumelu, after the consideration said the House cannot be asked to rescind decision on section since it was not ruled upon and led PDP members out of the floor of the House in protest.
The House, however, proceeded to pass the Electoral Act leaving the mode of transmission of results to the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) to decide.
The house version is different from that passed by the senate which mandated the NCC to approve areas that results will be transmitted electronically from.
