Hoodlums burn down police station in Imo

Unknown hoodlums on Thursday night set the newly reconstructed Aboh Mbaise Police Division ablaze.

According to sources, police officers on duty fled as the hoodlums who came with inflammable launched the assault on the station.

Detained suspects at the station also fled, creating panic among the residents of the area.

There have been series of attacks on police formations in Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi and Imo, with stakeholders saying the attacks are a prelude to a bigger sinister plot to destabilize law enforcement officers in the region.

Orlando Ikeokwu, spokesperson of the Imo State Police command while confirming the attack, said no police officer or rifle was lost in the incident.

He added that the commissioner of police, Nasiru Muhammed has ordered a full-scale investigation into the incident.
