Gunmen kill another traditional ruler in crisis-ridden Enugu community

Another crisis is brewing in the troubled Enugu community of Oruku in Nkanu East Local Government Area as unknown gunmen killed the Vice-Chairman Oruku Caretaker Committee, Chief Samuel Ani.

The crisis-ridden community was thrown into a state of lawlessness following the killing of Igwe Emmanuel Mbah by policemen from Force Headquarters while he was addressing members of his community during their annual meeting on December 26, 2020.

Local sources said Chief Ani was shot and killed Wednesday morning, adding that there was heavy shooting through Tuesday night.

The sources added that Police officers deployed to maintain peace were nowhere to be found while the shooting was ongoing.

They alleged that the people who worked with police officers from Abuja to kill Mbah, burnt their houses have also killed Ani.

Enugu State Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Ndatsu Aliyu confirmed the incident Ani was killed while he slept outside his house so as to take fresh air.

He said that from preliminary investigation, two bullets were seen expended during the killing.
