Unknown gunmen have attacked another Police Station in Cross River State, carting away arms.
The attack took place at Ekori in Yahuu local government area of the state with eyewitnesses alleging that the gunmen carted away AK 47 after beating up policemen on duty.
“The hoodlums invaded the Police Station located at Ekori community of Yakurr with heavy weapons and attacked the officers,” the witness told Daily Post.
According to him, the hoodlums scared away the officers on duty, beat one to stupor and made away with the AK-47 rifle of the policeman.
It was learnt that the attack led to the closure of the Ekori Police Station indefinitely and officers asked to move to Ugep Divisional Police, at the local government headquarters.
This is the third time that officers of the Nigeria Police Force have suffered attacks within two months in Cross River State.
The first attack was at a checkpoint located at Idundu Road by Goodluck Ebele Jonathan bypass in Calabar where four police officers were killed.
The second was at Obubra where scores of police officers, including a Nigerian Army officer was killed.
When contacted on Monday via phone, the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer Igri Ewa confirmed the incident, saying investigations on the matter were continuing but noted that the Command would soon issue a statement on that.
