A socio-political Igbo association, Igbos for a Progressive Nigeria, IPAN, has protested against incessant killings of security personnel in the South East geopolitical zone.

The group, which marched to the Anambra State Police Command Headquarters, Amawbia, said that the targeted attacks on police formations across the region, especially in Anambra State, were devilish and condemnable.

It noted that policemen who have lost their lives in such attacks were people’s husbands and fathers too, ABS reports.

Comrade Lawrence Onuzulike, leader of the group said that the porous security situation caused by the targeted attacks has left the citizens at the mercy of their own fates, and beckoned on everyone to show support to security agents in Anambra State in order to help them surmount the ugly challenge.

Addressing the protesters, the Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Tochukwu Ikenga, appreciated the group for the show of solidarity, explaining that such was needed, particularly at these difficult moments.

The police spokesperson also said that the attacks on police personnel would not deter them from performing their constitutional function of safeguarding lives and property of all Nigerians.

The group had earlier taken a written memo to the office of the Public Defender in Awka.
