Abubakar Malami, the Attorney General of the Federation has amended charges levelled against the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

Malami also banned IPOB members from attending the trial scheduled for 26th July.

Recall that IPOB members had vowed to mobilise and attend the trial.

Kanu was abducted from Kenya last month and brought back to Nigeria. The circumstances surrounding his abduction has remained a secret.

He fled the country in 2017 while on bail on charges of treasonable felony and terrorism after soldiers invaded his home in Afara Ukwu in Umuahia, the capital of Abia State.

The amended the charges against Kanu include killing of force personnel and Fulani cattle rearers which Malami described as innocent.

Malami also directed that only important government officials and Kanu’s lawyers will be allowed to attend the trial next week.
