The Enugu State House of Assembly has passed the Anti-Open Grazing and Regulation of Cattle Ranching Bill into law.
The bill which was sponsored by the leader of the House, Ikechukwu Ezeugwu.
The Bill’s passage followed the consideration of the Report of Public Hearing presented by Chairman of the joint Committee, Mrs Amaka Ugwu eze; and the co-chairmen Emma Ugwuerua, and Okwu Chinedu.
When signed into law, the will end farmers/herders clashes as well as killing and raping of women by herdsmen.
Edward Ubosi, speaker of the House had during the public hearing, said that the anti-open grazing bill is not targeted at anybody or group but to promote peaceful co-existence in the state.
Recall that the Southern Governors Forum had set September 1st as deadline for the promulgation of anti-open grazing law in member states.
