Rivers gov't asks court to dismiss suit demanding information about cost of flyovers

A Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Port Harcourt on Thursday remanded two male students of Okporo Secondary School in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State for alleged defilement of a female victim.

The students reportedly committed the offence on October 27, 2021, at Okporo Secondary School, Port Harcourt.

The judge, Rita Oguguo, ordered that the accused persons, identified as Chukwudi Daniel and Confidence Samuel Gbarabe, aged 14, be Remanded Home for allegedly having carnal knowledge of their victim without her consent.

Count one charge stated that the accused persons conspired among themselves, an offence punishable under Section 516A of the Criminal Code, Cap 37, Vol. 11, Laws of Rivers State.

In the count two charge, the two students were accused of unlawfully and sexually abusing one (name withheld) aged 14 years, thereby committing an offence punishable under Section 221 of the Criminal Code, Cap 37, Vol. 11, Laws of Rivers State.

However, the students pleaded not guilty to the charge levelled against them as their counsel, Chinedu Ndah, prayed the court to grant bail to his clients.

Oguguo adjourned the case until December 7, 2021, to rule on bail application and hearing while the two male students were to Remand Home in Port Harcourt.
