Abia State Federal High Court on Tuesday fixed a new date to hear the suit filed by the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu against the Federal Government on infringement of human rights.

Aloy Ejimakor, Nnamdi Kanu’s lead Counsel who disclosed this in an interview with newsmen said Kanu’s human rights suit which was slated for November 2, 2021, has been adjourned to November 19, 2021.

Kanu through his legal team, dragged the Nigerian government and the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) Abubakar Malami, before the court, seeking his unconditional release.

The suit is regarding matters relating to the IPOB leader’s extradition, alleged maltreatment by security operatives and his release.

The hearing of the case had been scheduled for November 2, 2021, but has now been adjourned to November 19, according to Ejimakor.

Speaking, he said, “Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s human rights suit which was slated for November 2, 2021, has been adjourned to November 19, 2021, by the Federal High Court in Abia.

“We are saddened by this development which primarily seeks the unconditional release of Kanu from his illegal detentions.”

It could be recalled that Kanu, who was re-arrested and extradited to Nigeria has been in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) and was last week Thursday arraigned before Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court, Abuja on terrorism and treason charges.
