Unknown gunmen have attacked a police team at Ekwulobia, Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State.
Standard Observers gathered that the shootout between the police officers and the hoodlums lasted for over two hours.
Eyewitnesses said two police officers were killed while others sustained bullet wounds.
They added that soldiers later stormed the area forcing the hoodlums to escape on foot.
The killing at Ekwulobia comes barely 24 hours after suspected cultists killed at least seven persons in Okpuno community in Awka, the state capital.
The unrest also comes barely eight days to the crucial gubernatorial election in the state.
Ikenga Tochukwu, the public relations officer of the state command did not respond to inquiries for comment as at the time of filing this report.
