More than 50 persons have been arrested by security agents in parts of Emene in Enugu following a clash between security agents and members of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB enforcing Tuesday’s sit-at-home.
The IPOB members attacked a commercial vehicle conveying commuters to town and set it ablaze close to Oye Emene, causing panick.
Security agents swooped in to contain the breakdown of law and order, arrested some of the suspected members of the group enforcing the sit-at-home order.
Gunshots rented the air as security agents tried to contain the incident.
An eyewitness said the combined team of security agents arrested scores of men numbering over fifty.
According to the source, the arrested men were tied on the hands and legs; and thrown into Hilux vans and driven away.
When contacted, Daniel Ndukwe, the public relations officer of the state command confirmed the development.
He said security agents are working round clock to ensure life and properties are secured.
The group had ordered the sit-at-home in commemoration of the 2017 attack on the home of its leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu in Afara Ukwu, Umuahia, Abia State.
Footages posted online showed members of the group enforcing the sit-at-home in Nnaka and other parts of Anambra.
