No less than twelve persons have been slaughtered by rampaging Fulani herdsmen in the Etteh Community of Enugu-Ezike, Igboeze North Local Government Area of Enugu State.
Among the killed were two pregnant women and five children, local sources told Standard Obsevers.
The attack comes barely two months after 15 persons were killed in a similar attack in Mgbuji, Ehamufu town of Isi-Uzo Local Government area.
The herdsmen invaded parts of the community sharing borders with Ofante in Kogi State on Thursday night, a youth leader, Abumchi Itodo said.
According to the youth leader, more than twenty others were left with varying degrees of injuries and are currently recuperating at the hospital.
He said the attack has left the community devasted while the deceased have been buried by their various families.
A gory video of the attack showed the victims with machete cuts on different parts of their bodies, especially the heads.
According to him, distress calls were made to the police during the attack but were not responded to. He added that the constant attacks by armed Fulani herders have compounded the pain of the community which is mostly cut off from development by the state government.
Daniel Ndukwe, the public relations officer of the Enugu State Police Command said he had not been briefed on the incident when contacted for comments.
