Arsonists on Thursday set parts of the Aguata Local Government Headquarters on fire.
The heavily armed hoodlums invaded the area around 2:pm, shooting sporadically and forcing workers to scamper for their lives.
The attack followed a military operation in the Aguluezechukwu community believed to be one of the hideouts of the hoodlums.
Aguata is the Local Government Area of governor Chukwuma Soludo.
During the attack on the LGA headquarters, several cars belonging to the staff of the council were also burnt.
Eyewitnesses said that efforts to get the men of the State Fire Service to put out the fire were unsuccessful as of 4 pm.
DSP Ikenga Tochukwu, the public relations officer of the state command said that “following the report of the fire incident at the local government headquarters, the command has deployed men to the area and the situation has been brought under control.”
He added that men of the Fire Service have been contacted and they are already combating the inferno.
