The Nigerian Army on Wednesday said reports that it raided the camp of the Eastern Security Network, ESN, in Abia where 16 operatives of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB-backed security operatives were allegedly killed are false.

It, however, confirmed that hoodlums attacked one of its checkpoint at Ariaria junction in Aba on Tuesday night.

Standardobservers had reported the attack on the military checkpoint where about six persons were reportedly killed following a shoot out that lasted for about one hour.

Captain Iliya Dauda, Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, 14 Brigade Ohafia, said there was no military operation against the ESN in the state.

He, however, said that some unknown gunmen attacked an Army checkpoint at Ariaria junction Aba but were repelled.

Dauda said there was no casualty on the part of the military during the attack, adding that they’ve launched an investigation at the scene to ascertain the number of civilians killed.
