The Anglican Bishop of the Diocese of Mbammili, Right Reverend Obiora Uzochukwu has called for proactive steps to be taken in the dredging of the River Niger.

The Anglican Bishop made the call while presenting his bishop’s charge to the 3rd session of the 4th synod of the Diocese held at St. Andrew’s Anglican Church Mmiata Anam, Anambra West council area.

Bishop Uzochukwu noted that this will help alleviate the sufferings of Nigerians in the riverine areas who experience flooding annually which he said is causing economic hardship for the people as the flooding overruns their farms.

Bishop Uzochukwu commended the immediate past Governor of Anambra state, Chief Willie Obiano for concluding his administration with landmark projects including the Anambra International Cargo and Passengers Airport, Umueri.

He also congratulated the new state governor, Prof. Charles Soludo on his swearing in and prayed that God will empower him to accomplish his vision.

In his remarks, the Archbishop, Province of the Niger and Bishop Diocese of Awka, Most Reverend Alexander Ibezim, commended Bishop Uzochukwu for achieving much within a short period of time and appreciated his evangelistic work in the area and promised to support the Diocese especially in the area of education.
