Anambra guber: INEC ends voting, begins collation today

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, says voting has stopped across the state and that the state Collation starts at ten in the mmorning on Sunday

The Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr Nkwachukwu Orji who stated this on Saturday while briefing the press at the INEC headquarters in Awka, invited Collation officers, accredited polling agents observers, and the media the media to be present.

He expressed joy that the technical glitches experienced with the new Bimodal Voter Accreditation System, BVAS, has been largely solved and thanked candidates and voters for waiting patiently for the problem to be solved.

Dr. Orji, said though the problem may not have been perfectly solved everywhere, reports from the field are convincing that most were able to vote with the BVAS following extension of the voting period to 4pm.

The REC. said they are yet to receive reports of any location where the sustained malfunction of the of the BVAS led to no election in spite of his earlier brief that voters in such locations shall continue tomorrow.

According to Dr. Orji, the electoral process has entered the critical stage which is the Collation of results and they have made adequate arrangements for the Collation.

He was full of praises for the security agencies and the media, for the exceptional professional way they supported the election and reiterated the determination and commitment of the the Commission to ensure that the election is concluded satisfactorily and that every vote cast counts in the outcome.
