The Anambra State House of Assembly has passed a resolution urging Governor Willie Obiano to direct the Commissioner for Culture, Tourism and Diaspora Affairs and any other relevant agency to rehabilitate the Ogba cave at Owerre- Ezukala in Orumba South Local Area for tourism purposes.
The House passed the resolution following a motion of urgent public importance sponsored by the member representing Orumba South Constituency, Emma Nwafor during plenary.
While describing tourism as one of the major revenue drives for most developed nations, the lawmaker revealed that the cave can generate huge revenue to the State if major facilities are put in place, ABS reports.
On his part, the member representing Nnewi North Constituency, Nonso Okafor who expressed his passion for Ogba cave because of its potentials, maintained that it will be a tourist site for the world if it is rehabilitated.
In his speech, the member representing Njikoka Two Constituency, Pete Ibida who revealed that the main source of revenue generation for most African and European countries are tourism appealed to Governor Obiano to rehabilitate the cave to improve the revenue profile of the State.
The member representing Anaocha Two Constituency, Ejike Okechukwu also stressed the need for the State government to diversify into tourism to attract foreign exchange to the State and ease pressure on forex.
The Speaker of the House, Uche Okafor expressed confidence that Governor Obiano will rise to the occasion by implementing the resolution.
While supporting motion for adjournment, the majority leader, Dr. Nnamdi Okafor commiserated with the family of those who were killed by unknown gunmen during a burial ceremony in Ebenebe, Awka North Local Government Area.
