Vincent Ezekwueme, a member of Anambra State #EndSARS panel says the defunct Special Anti-Robbery Squad killed, maimed, assaulted, extorted and caused fear on the innocent victims unconstitutionally thereby committing the worst atrocity ever.

Comrade Ezekwueme disclosure comes barely a few weeks for the Anambra State panel on EndSars to present its recommendation to Governor Willie Obiano for necessary action on the petitions submitted to it by victims against the defunct Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS).

Speaking to newsmen, he said, “you will shed tears for this country if you had heard the type of monumental injustices, brutality, man’s inhumanity against man and extrajudicial killings perpetrated by the defunct SARS.”

“A lot of the petitioners lost their husbands, children, wives, relations, among others, in a mysterious manner, undescribable manner.

“These people (SARS) took laws into their hands and exterminated lives of citizens of this country without toeing part of the country’s constitution”

Ezekwueme, an activist and the state chairman of Civil Liberties Organization, CLO, added that “no power was granted to SARS constitutionally to kill extra judiciously. The situation was very pathetic and painful and we pray that such ugly development will not repeat itself again.

“I use this opportunity to urge the police authority to caution its men and treat the populace with civility in accordance with the constitution”.

He, however, expressed satisfaction with the task before the panel saying that the panel was able to treat all the 312 petitions submitted to it by the aggrieved victims.

“So far the panel headed by a renowned jurist, Chief Justice Veronica Ngozi Umeh, has succeded in tackling all the petitions before it meritoriously, taking into consideration rule of law.

“We, members of the EndSARS panel in Anambra state, devoted our time and talent to tackle all the petitions before us. The state panel received the highest number of petitions in the country, 312 of them.

“Currently we are articulating all the petitions and we assure the general public that we will treat every case according to its merit. We are now writing recomendation to Governor Willie Obiano who has the wherewithal to pay the compensation.

“We are ready to ensure justice in the petitions and I want to let the world know that we endured the challenges confronting us to sacrifice ourselves to ensure the panel succeeded in achieving its aims and objectives”
