Approval of $1.5 billion for PH refinery is politically motivated - Wike

The Peoples Democratic Party in Okrika Local Government Area of Rivers State say they are not happy over the refusal by Governor Nyesom Wike to appoint a commissioner from their tribe.

Pursuant to the federal character principle, every LGA in the state is mandated to have a commissioner in the state cabinet.

In a chat with our correspondent, a PDP ward chairman of the LGA, Jeremiah Omo said no matter how political, the reason for not appointing a commissioner from Okrika might be, the governor ought to have complied with the federal character principle.

He said, “we have written to the governor to consider appointing a commissioner from Okrika in his cabinet which he has not done.

“As I speak to you now, no Okrika man or woman is a commissioner in the state and we are not happy about it.

“Though, we are yet to know what the governor’s reasons might be but since it is our right to have a commissioner in his cabinet, he should have put politics aside and go ahead to appoint a commissioner from our tribe.”

However, the governor had appointed commissioners in two or more instances from the Okrika extraction but were removed from office through the hire and fire power of the governor.
