A Warri-based senior oil worker has been killed by unknown gunmen in his home town in Imo.
Obiezu, the younger brother of the Accountant-General of Imo state, Valentine Obiezu was gunned down on Sunday in Akatta community, Oru East Local Government Area where he was holidaying.
His killing comes days after another billionaire, Leo Anuforo was killed by unknown gunmen in Orsu Local Government Area, sparking fears in the state over heightening insecurity.
It was gathered that the victim returned home for the Christmas and New Year celebration and was holidaying in his home town when he was gunned down.
The gunmen made unsuccessful attempts to abduct him, before shooting him. They, however, made away with his Hilux truck.
His killing has been linked to politics because of his brother’s position, while others believed it was a kidnap operation that went bad.
The police spokesperson in the state, Orlando Ikeokwu, said he had not been briefed about the incident.
But a senior police officer, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told our Punch that the Orlu Area Command had swung into action with a view to arresting the fleeing gunmen.
