United Airlines to train UniZik students on Aviation Engineering

Dr Obiora Okonkwo, the Chairman of the United Airline on Tuesday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, to train of Engineering students in the Aviation Industry.

Okonkwo said only 20 students from the University department of Engineering who are on Industrial Training (IT) will be trained every year, starting from 2021 by the United Nigeria Airlines Management.

He explain that the training was to encourage Engineering students to develop more interest in Aviation Industry.

According to Okonkwo, who is also the governorship candidate of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), in the forthcoming November 6, 2021, gubernatorial election in the state, noted that for a start, the company will train the first twenty IT students and if their performances meet the Industry standard, they will be given automatic employment.

He added that he will facilitate the establishment of the Department of Rusia Language into the University through Pro-Value Foundation, to expand the business relationship between Nigeria and the Russian Government and also establish a Poultry Farm for industrial use.

While appealing to the university community to vote for him during Saturday’s poll, Okonkwo promised that if given the opportunity to govern, he will empty Russians into Anambra State with a minimum of 10 billion US dollars investment for onward development.

Also speaking, the Director, Engineering//Maintenace, United Nigeria Airlines, Engr. Alexander Iheuwa, said the programme will encourage Nigerians, in respective of Religion, Ethnic and Tribal placement to a vein into the Industry. And also promote professionalism.

Responding, the Vice-Chancellor, Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka Professor Charles Esimone represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academics, Professor Frederick Odibo, while commending Okonkwo, on the programme, said the institution is dedicated to providing the best opportunity for students and staff to practice and excel in their various careers, adding that the University will continue to partner United Nigeria Airlines and Pro-Value Foundation to become the best in the training of Engineering.
