The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, has raided several joints where different types of illicit and hard drugs are trafficked especially the popular Crystal Methamphetamine popularly known as “Mkpụrụmmiri” in Umudioka, Dunukofia Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The raid, which was carried out in conjunction with the Nigerian Police, the Directorate of State Security, DSS, was led by the Umudioka Vigilante Services and the Umudioka Improvement Union President’s General Taskforce.
The joint task force raided and destroyed nine bunks and shanties where the hard drugs are sold including the popular Umunte, Gozie Roger’s, People’s, Olisa Umeneze, Umuejima Jenkins, Cobra and Akpunwa bunks.
Drug dependent persons nabbed during the operation were quickly taken to Anambra State Psychiatric Hospital, Nawfia, for immediate rehabilitation.
Speaking to newsmen after the raid, the President General of Umudioka Improvement Union, Mr. Chike Odoji promised that his leadership will no longer tolerate the trafficking of hard drugs in the community and warned the perpetrators to leave the community as they are more than ready to face them head-on until the town is fully cleared of such destructive activities.
