The Ebonyi State House of Assembly has summoned the newly appointed Commissioner for Capital Territory Development in the State, Onyekachi Nwebonyi over the destruction of more than five vehicles in Abakaliki, the state capital.

Nwebonyi, a lawyer, was accused of leading thugs in charge of illegal parking to destroy vehicles they alleged were wrongly parked.

Residents who decried the manner with which the commissioner discharged his duties argued that in a saner clime, the vehicle would be impounded if they broke the parking order while the owners face the consequences which usually come as a way of fine than the total damage.

A driver whose car was damaged urged governor Dave Umahi to call Nwebonyi and his cohort to order.

“If they continue this way, people may be forced to do anything to resist them and they may meet their end, everyone is not the same,” he said.

Another angry driver seen in a trending video whose vehicle was also destroyed said “I can’t go to work again because my vehicle has been destroyed by the thugs of Onyekachi Nwebonyi, Commissioner for Capital Territory.

“I place curse on him today. He will die a painful death for destroying our vehicles. Go to the other area, you will see how he destroyed people’s goods” .

Meanwhile, the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Francis zogbonna Nwifuru, has invited Nwebonyi to appear before the House following complaints of high-handedness against him by residents of Abakaliki.
