Parliament in the United Kingdom has said it would debate the arrest and repatriation of its citizen and leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu back to Nigeria.
Kanu was reportedly arrested by Kenyan authorities on the 19th of June, tortured and repatriated to Nigeria on the 26th of June.
He is facing an 11-count charge bothering on treason and terrorism. He scheduled to appear in court on the 26th of July.
The UK Parliament in a schedule on its website, said it will debate “the circumstances surrounding the transfer of Mr Kanu to Nigeria against his will”, among other issues.
Lord Alton of Liverpool will be raising the issue at the House of Lords and will ask the British government on Kanu’s repatriation to Nigeria.
The debate is “To ask Her Majesty’s Government what assessment they have made of (1) the alleged role of the government of Kenya in the detention and alleged mistreatment of Nigerian activist Nnamadi Kanu, (2) the circumstances surrounding the transfer of Mr Kanu to Nigeria against his will, and (3) of any assistance being provided to him by the high commission in Abuja”.
The parliament is hoping that relevant government department provides answers to its questions on July 19, 2021.
