Operatives of the Rivers State Task Force on illegal trading and motor parks, on Sunday, triggered a near-fatal accident in the Rukpoku area of Obio-Akpor Local Government Area of the state.
According to eyewitnesses, occupants of the vehicle had barely alighted from the white Volkswagen car which failed to load on time before a white truck being chased the operatives rammed into it.
The witnesses said the task force operatives who were chasing the truck fled the scene when the accident occurred.
Series of deaths have been linked to the task team in the past.
They have been accused of discharging their duties with deadly weapons including machetes and axes.
In February 2020, the death of a Hausa trader in the hands of the task force team at the GRA are of Port Harcourt sparked a riot that was quelled by the police.
They were subsequently disbanded by the state government for retraining and began operations about four months ago.
