Residents of Enugu community kill six northerners, burn mosque over herdsmen attack

Six members of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association have been killed during a reprisal by residents of Adani community in Uzo Uwani local government area of Enugu state.

A mosque in the area was also burnt down following an earlier attack by Fulani herdsmen.

Community sources said the incident occurred on Sunday in the community.

According to the sources who spoke on the condition of anonymity, Fulani herders shot two indigenes of the community while they were on an even stroll.

According to the sources, attacks by herders have become too frequent in the area resulting in deaths and destruction of farmlands in the agrarian community.

However, residents of the area retaliated and killed six herders hanging out at a mosque in the community. They also burnt the mosque during the reprisal attack.

Another source who confirmed the development said the attacks sent shock waves into the northern community in the area, as they disappeared from the community for fear of being killed.

He added that the police have been drafted to the area to maintain peace.
