Labour Party (LP) has described plans by the Lagos State Government to indefinitely shutdown the Ladipo and Oyingbo markets as an attack on Igbo People.

The government announced the plans following what it described as the indiscriminate disposal of waste in the markets thereby causing environmental problems.

Labour Party said closing the two predominantly major centres of Igbo businesses in Lagos with a view to ruining their businesses because they confessed support for the party would be callous, insensitive and an oppressive act by the Lagos All Progressives Congress government.

National Publicity Secretary of the party, Arabambi Abayomion in a statement in Abuja on Monday, expressed shock at the planned shutdown of the markets, adding that it is a further sign of the intolerance of the APC-led administration in Lagos.

“Our party attention has been drawn to an announcement made by the Lagos State government to shut down both Ladipo and Oyingbo markets indefinitely by Thursday, September 22, 2022 due to claims of traders’ indiscriminate waste disposal.

“Our party notes with utmost shock the state government deceptive reasons was because it could no longer tolerate any more violations, including reckless waste dumping, non-payment for waste services, and general poor waste management situation in these markets

“Our party wishes to categorically state here that the APC in Lagos State is a very intolerant government.”
