The police in Khana Local Government Area of Rivers State have accused the council chairmen of Ogoni ethnic nationality of not supporting the fight against criminals in the area.
In an interview with our correspondent, the Divisional Police Officer of Bori Police Division in Khana LGA, Angbashim Bako expressed disappointment over the manner with which the council chairmen of Khana and Gokana LGAs are handling insecurity in their domains.
The DPO said, “we have not been getting logistic support from the council chairmen of Ogoni especially Khana and Gokana LGAs.
“We have just three operational vehicles and two have broken down and only one operational vehicle can not cover the Ogoni communities.
“Most times, we use private vehicles for patrol which ought not to be.
“We have severally approached the council chairmen to assist us with operational vehicles or help repair the ones that have broken down but they refused to assist.
“These council chairmen are not supporting our fight against criminals in their LGAs.
“I broker the existing peace between Lewe and Bomu communities in Gokana LGA, and I often go to those communities with private vehicles. We have asked the Gokana LG chairman to assist us with logistics and up till now, he hasn’t done anything.
“If the chairmen of these LGAs were assisting us in our fight against criminals, long before now, we would have dislodged criminals from Ogoni communities.”
Recently, the Ogoni axis has been experiencing gang violence, killings and kidnappings.
However, some successes have been recorded by security agencies who have arrested and killed most of the bad boys in Ogoni communities.
Following the April 17, 2021 local government elections across the state, the incumbent Khana and Gokana Chairmen: Lahteh Loolo and Paul Konami will be out of office as incoming new administrations are waiting to be sworn in.
