The Rivers State House of Assembly has passed the State’s Prohibition of Open Rearing and Grazing Bill 2021.
This follows a committee report presented on the floor of the house by the house committee Chairman on Agriculture, ANSALEM OGUGWO.
The Majority Leader of the house, MARTIN AMEWHULE who led the debate said the bill when passed and signed into law will address the issues of encroachment of farm land and unlawful killing of farmers in the state.
Some lawmakers during debate supported the executive bill after extensive arguments.
The Speaker of the house in his submission said said the bill till address challenges emanating from open rearing and grazing of livestock in the state.
Meanwhile, the Rivers State house of assembly has also passed the Rivers State Residents registration agency bill 2021.
Speaker of the House, Ikuinyi Owaji-Ibani in his resolution after committee report said the bill is coming to cure some anomalies and also ensure government does not face further expenses in the dwindling economy.
He said the content of the bill will enable the state enhance effective service delivery.
