Rangers FC players, officials held hostage in Katsina after away win

Players and officials of Rangers International FC of Enugu were on Sunday held hostage by fans of Katsina United after the visitors defeated them at home in matchday 1 of the 2021/2022 Nigeria Professional Football League, NPFL.

Rangers started their league campaign by defeating Katsina 2-1 in their home ground, Muhammadu Dikko Stadium, Katsina city.

But after the final whistle, irate fans blocked the stadium gates and insisted that Rangers would not leave the stadium

The Enugu side, however took to their social media handles to cry for help after they were held for about twenty minutes.

“We are being held hostage here by irate fans after our win in Katsina,” Rangers said.

The source noted that the angry fans registered their anger over the defeat handed down to their team and threatened to attack the team.

The source who craved confidentiality said that immediately after the final whistle, Rangers players and management were asked by LMC official not to leave the dressing room.

However, when the club left the room after some minutes, some fans who refused to leave the stadium waiting for Rangers, overpowered the security at the gate and surrounded Rangers team bus.

Meanwhile, the management of Katsina United Fc has debunked the alleged keeping hostage of Rangers Intn’l Fc players by Katsina United Fans.

The club said that even though katsina United Fc lost their first match of the new season at Muhammadu Dikko Stadium but nothing as such that happened

“The readers should looks at the picture used in the story which is totally different from Katsina United Stadium

“Who ever is responsible for this write up is just trying to tarnish the good image of Katsina United

“The management, therefore, urged football loving fans,stakeholders and officials of the league management company to disregard such reports as it is baseless and full of Lie’s” .
