Security agencies in Rivers State have conducted a ‘Show of Force’ around Port Harcourt Correctional Services premises at Old Port Harcourt Township in a bid to prevent the gale of jailbreaks across the country.

The show of force was carried out to show the readiness of the military in defending the country.

The NNS Pathfinder in a statement by the base information officer Lt Commander Rasheed Iginla said the exercise is in conformity with the chief of naval staff, Vice Admiral AWWAL ZABARU GAMBO’s vision and mission statement towards securing its own area of operation and deterring any form of insecurity in the state.

The statement noted that the show of force became necessary following the Kuje jailbreak in Abuja.

The security agencies also asked residents of Old Port Harcourt Township and environs not to panic as the exercise is a proactive measure to protect the facility.

The statement assured that the military is still capable and committed to securing and defending all the territorial parts of the country.

In fact, from September 2015 to July 2022, there have been about 15 jailbreaks across Nigeria, resulting in over 7,000 escapes.

The recent incident is the Kuje jail break where over four inmates including Boko Haram terrorists escaped from the facility.
