A Police Inspector identified as Ochofie Ijimbile has shot himself to death while servicing his rifle.
The officer attached to MOPOL 55 Aba, Abia State was before his death serving as a hotel guard in Aba metropolis.
The state Police spokesman, SP Geoffrey Ogbonna said that Inspector Ijimbile accidentally shot himself on the chest on Friday.
Ogbonna said the inspector was immediately rushed to the hospital where he was confirmed dead.
He said the late inspector could have been unaware that there was bullet in his rifle chamber and called on policemen in Abia and across the country especially those handling rifles to always exercise extra carefulness while servicing their arms.
According to him, his corpse has since been deposited in the morgue while efforts are on to reach the family members.
