The Abuja Command of the Nigeria Police has arrested Peter Nwachukwu, the husband of the late gospel singer, Osinachi Nwachukwu, most notable for soulful worship song, ‘Ekwueme’.
Mr Nwachukwu is accused of complicity in her death after he allegedly kicked her in the chest.
There are allegations, which were later confirmed by late Osinachi’s older sister that the husband actually kicked her in the chest, which led to her being hospitalised.
Gospel artiste, Edwin Alex, had claimed that Osinachi allegedly died of throat cancer, but another singer, Frank Edwards, put up an insinuating post that ‘an unreasonable human’ caused the death of the singer.
Following the controversy over her death, the President of the Fellowship of Gospel Music Ministers of Nigeria, Asu Ekiye, called for the immediate arrest of her husband to ensure proper investigation into the touchy issue.
Ekiye, a popular award-winning gospel artiste, urged FOGGMON members to refrain from making further comments on the death of Osinachi which has become controversial until the investigation is concluded with an autopsy report.
He urged the gospel artists to conduct themselves in a manner that would not subvert the investigation.
The FCT Police Command also confirmed that the husband is in their custody while an investigation was ongoing.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, who confirmed the arrest of the late singer’s husband to journalists said: “He is now in our custody. The younger brother of the deceased reported the matter and we have commenced an investigation,” the FCT PPRO stated.
