Indications emerged on Tuesday showing plans by the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP to relocate its South South secretariat in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital to Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital.
Sources within the party who spoke on the conditions of anonymity said that the decision to move the party’s secretariat to Uyo was reached last week in order to enable the coordination of the South South campaign of the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.
According to the sources, the decision followed the lack of support for Atiku’s campaign by Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers.
“The party felt that leaving the region’s secretariat in Port Harcourt will hinder its coordination of the campaign since Governor Wike is not supporting Atiku,” one of the sources said.
“Udom Emmanuel is the chairman of Atiku’s campaign council, so relocating the secretariat to Uyo will enable him to coordinate the South South Wing effectively”.
Recall that governor Wike and other PDP chieftains have said that they will not support Atiku’s candidacy until the national chairman of the party, Iyorchia Ayu resigns as a way enabling equality within the PDP.
