Orji Kalu's brother, Mascot emerges APC candidate for Aba North/Aba South bye-election

Mascot Uzor-Kalu, a brother to the current Senate Majority Chief Whip, Orji Uzoh Kalu has been selected by the Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) its flag bearer in the coming Aba North and Aba South federal constituency bye-election.

Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had fixed March 27 for the bye-election.

The Abia APC in a press statement by State Publicity Secretary, Benedict Godson, on Tuesday, congratulated Mascot Uzor Kalu on his emergence as the party’s candidate.

Godson expressed confidence in the capacity of the latter to deliver if elected in the green chamber of the Nigeria House of Representatives.

He said: “We are taking this stand in agreement with the results announced by the chairman of the electoral and returning officer of the committee, Barrister Bisi Idaomi, who announced Aba North to be 23,248 and Aba South 23, 977. Hon. Mascot Uzor-Kalu polled 47,825 votes to win the election.

“Standing with the integrity of the committee and the credibility of the properly conducted election in the 24 Wards of the Federal Constituency, Abia State Chapter of the APC, therefore, makes it clear that henceforth, Hon. Mascot Uzor-Kalu will fly our flag, and we shall support him.

“From the results from the 24 Wards: 12 wards in Aba South and 12 wards in Aba North where he won with an overwhelming majority, Barr Bisi Idaomi declared Hon. Mascot Uzor-Kalu as the winner of the primaries for the by-election coming on the 27th of March.

“The police witnessed it, DSS witnessed it, INEC witnessed it, the state working Committee witnessed it and the expanded exco, Aba North and Aba South Chairmen, other exco members, some Abia APC leaders and members of the press all witnessed it as well”.
