Ohafia crisis: Army asks traditional rulers to sign undertaking before lifting siege

Nigerian Army has asked traditional rulers in Ohafia Local Government Area of Abia State to sign undertaking before lifting siege imposed on communities.

Brigadier General Adegoke Adetuyi, brigade commander of 14 brigade Ohafia vowed that the Brigade under his watch will do all it can to eliminate criminal elements in the community and its environs.

His vow followed three days of clashes between soldiers of the brigade and youths in the LGA which claimed the lives of five persons including a soldier.

Brigadier General Adetuyi who met with a delegation of traditional rulers and elders in Ohafia on Friday, led by the local government Chairman Dr Okoroafor Ukiwe said youths of the LGA were rude to them.

He enjoined the traditional rulers and monarchs to talk to their subjects to eschew violence, embrace peace and stop harbouring criminals in their respective domains. This, he said, is necessary so that innocent and law abiding citizens would not be subjected to unnecessary inconveniences or get hurt.

He further disclosed that there was need for the delegates to endorse an undertaking, assuring of their undiluted support for peace and security in Ohafia Local Government Area.

Meanwhile, traditional rulers in the LGA have urged the public to go about their normal business.

Engr. Kalu Uma Kalu, Secretary of Ohafia Council of Monarchs said normalcy has been restored.

“Everyone can now go about their normal business without fear. However the brigade Commander complained that Amaekpu people are stubborn and provocative in their attitude to the soldiers.

“Everyone is hereby advised to prevail on their kit and kin to desist from any form of behavior that will likely cause a bridge of the peace” .
