Two people were killed while properties worth billions of naira were destroyed in Ogidi, Anambra State on Sunday when a tanker laden with fuel burst into flames

The incident occurred near the popular International Building Materials market, Ogidi, left many people injured, while about 25 buses belonging to Ifeanyichukwu motors were burnt.

It was gathered that  the fire was caused by  a tanker conveying fuel to an undisclosed destination.

An eyewitness said the tanker was stationary when an articulate vehicle lost control and rammed into it, causing the tanker fall into a nearby drainage, spilled its contents, and immediately went up in flames.

The eyewitness said that luxury buses parked around the area went up in flames, while shops and buildings within the area were also engulfed in the inferno.

Martin Agbili, Chief Fire Service officer in Anambra State, said two persons died while 25 buses and properties were lost to the inferno.

He also said the fire could have spread to other areas but for the quick arrival of his men and assistance from other nearby stations.

Meanwhile, the Anambra State Government has sympathized with the owner of twenty five luxurious buses gutted by fire at Ogidi.

Governor Willie Obiano visited the scene where he advised transporters to take out full insurance on their vehicles in case of disaster.

The vehicles belong to Chief Ifeanyichukwu Egwim of the popular Ifeanyichukwu Motors.
